The pond is most famous for a long-standing memorial made for the people who lost their lives during the war, it was made specifically to honour the 243 local servicemen who died in World War I, and it was updated to commemorate those who lost their lives in World War II and the Northern Ireland Conflict. The memorial stands on the edge of the upper pond along Honeywood Walk, it is a Grade II listed structure built in the form of a cenotaph which is shaped as a tall, multi-tiered pylon or solid stone block, which tapers as it rises to resemble an elegant, stylized altar.
